International School Award

The International School Award (ISA) celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

Elmridge achieved the International School Award full accreditation in November 2018 and reaccreditation status in September 2022. Elnmridge has shown outstanding development of the international dimension in the curriculum.

Elmridge Primary’s International commitment

International work has had a significant representation in the Elmridge curriculum for over 15 years. Staff and senior leaders within school have been instrumental in supporting this work through developing a global curriculum and linking Elmridge with schools in a number of different continents. The school is well known for its foreign language teaching.

For many years the school has been committed to staff professional development to secure the delivery of an outstanding international curriculum. Over the last 6 years, 8 members of staff have participated in Erasmus + cultural and language trips to Spain. The school has regularly organised International events such as Spanish Celebration day and Latin America Week. The school’s population has a rich ethnic mix.

We have encouraged parents to support our international events for example in our South Asia Week when parents delivered an assembly and Chinese New Year which was celebrated with a Chinese culture week. Five years ago, the school welcomed an exchange teacher from China for a week funded by the Confucius Institute and the Head visited China. During the last two years, teachers have made links with partner schools abroad and Elmridge have undertaken a number of joint projects with schools in Pakistan, Spain, Qatar and Singapore. The school has also organised Spanish speaking pen friends for our pupils in our partner school- Colegio Alberto Alcocer in Madrid.
