Music

Music encourages creativity and self-expression while nurturing focus and collaboration. Through singing, performing and composing, children develop skills that bring joy and enrich their lives. Our aim is to support children to be expressive, enthusiastic and appreciative musicians.

Our Intent

At Elmridge we have created a music curriculum, supported by the Kapow school scheme, to deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum, whilst developing children who have a life-long love of music. Children develop skills and knowledge to become confident performers, composers and listeners.  Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching them to respect and appreciate the music of diverse traditions and communities.

Children will develop the musical skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music, and listening and responding to music. They will develop an understanding of the history and cultural context of music and learn how music can be written down. Through music, children understand the school values of challenge, compassion and collaboration through the development of transferable skills such as teamwork, leadership, creative thinking, problem-solving, decision making and presentation and performance skills. These skills are vital to children’s development as learners and have a wider application in their lives outside of school and beyond.

Our music curriculum takes a holistic approach to music, in which the individual strands of performing, listening, composing, music history and inter-related dimensions of music are woven together to create engaging and enriching learning experiences.

Music at Elmridge is taught through a spiral curriculum where previous skills and knowledge are returned to and built upon.

Instrumental Music Tuition

We offer a wide range of instrumental tuition throughout school which is delivered by Rocksteady Music School and Trafford Music Service, where pupils have the opportunity to pay for extra-curricular instrument tuition. Currently, we have children learning to play the drums, bass guitar, keyboard, electric guitar or to be the vocalist in our bands.  Any parent interested in tuition, should contact the school office.
