At Elmridge, we know that children learn best when they feel happy, safe and valued. Wellbeing is woven through every aspect of school life and is something we actively promote every day, not just when children need additional support.
We want every child to develop the confidence to be themselves, the resilience to overcome challenges and the emotional literacy to understand and manage their feelings. By creating a nurturing and inclusive environment, we help children build positive relationships, develop healthy coping strategies and understand that it is always okay to ask for help.
Our whole-school approach to wellbeing is underpinned by our vision of Growing Together. We believe that children flourish when they feel a sense of belonging and know that they are listened to, respected and cared for.
Positive wellbeing is developed through everyday experiences across school life. Our curriculum, enrichment opportunities and wider school community all play an important role in helping children develop emotionally as well as academically.
Children benefit from:
These experiences help children develop resilience, empathy, confidence and the skills they need to look after both themselves and others.
We are proud to be working towards the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools Award. This nationally recognised accreditation supports our commitment to placing wellbeing at the heart of school life and continually strengthening the support we provide for our children, families and staff.

Whilst our universal provision supports every child, we understand that some children may need additional help at different points in their lives.
When this happens, we work closely with children and their families to understand their individual needs and provide the right support at the right time. Depending on the level of need, this may include regular check-ins with a trusted adult, support from our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), or referrals to external agencies where specialist advice is needed.
Our wellbeing team includes a trained Senior Mental Health Lead, an ELSA and Youth Mental Health First Aiders, ensuring that support is available for children across the school.
Parents and carers know their children best and we value the strong relationships we build with families. If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, however small they may seem, we encourage you to speak to us. By working together, we can ensure that children feel supported both at home and at school.
Sometimes families may wish to access support outside school. The organisations below provide advice and guidance on a range of wellbeing and mental health topics:
